After a not so enjoyable stay in Rome, Florence was an absolute treat. What an incredibly beautiful place to visit. I was so excited to stay here and it definitely did not disappoint. Cobbled streets, beautiful buildings and no one selling selfie sticks. I would definitely recommend visiting Florence. I spent 3 nights here and was able to see everything by foot.
I had taken the train from Rome to Florence which only took a few hours. There is a taxi rank outside the train station in Florence, don’t be put off by the waiting line for a taxi as this goes down so quickly. Please note that there are no Ubers in Florence, so it is either a taxi or a bus.
My favourite accommodation I stayed at for my entire 9 nights in Italy was here in Florence at Hotel Meridiana. A 10 minute drive from the train station, in walking distance from the centre of Florence. Comfy bed, a window with gorgeous shutters that opens up onto an incredible view, amazing breakfast, helpful and friendly staff, I have absolutely no complaints about this hotel. Very VERY happy. I would highly recommend staying here when you visit Florence.
Things to do
From Hotel Meridiana the centre of Florence is only around a 20 minute walk. The first place I stopped was the square where I was greeted by the most incredible building I have ever seen. The detail on this building is just breathtaking. Get here early like I did and there will not be many people there. Florence Cathedral is the most amazing building you just cannot miss while in Florence.
Ponte Vecchio is a place you also cannot miss while in Florence. This picturesque medieval arch bridge is lined with shops, mostly jewellery shops. The views from this bridge are just beautiful. Make sure you experience a sunset from here aswell as the lighting is just breathtaking over the water.
I spent all my time just walking around the streets, make sure you walk over the arch bridge and explore the otherside of Florence. Florence is a pretty small place so 3 nights is definitely enough time to get a feel for everything. In Florence there are so many places to eat the best ice cream, specially at Ponte Vecchio there are so many amazing ice cream shops.
Ristorante Pizzeria Alfredo
Make sure you go and eat at this amazing Italian Restaurant. This was only down the road from Hotel Meridiana so very convenient after a long day of walking around Florence. This restaurant is so nice, a lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. For starters I tried a zucchini flower which was really nice, followed by the best carbonara I have ever had, and a lovely glass of house white wine. The prices here are very reasonable and I can guarantee you wont regret visiting here.
I absolutely loved Florence and would love to go back and spend more time here. However 3 nights is definitely enough time when on a 9 night trip of Italy.
